Gregory Eddi Jones https://gregoryeddijones.com/Info Gregory Eddi Jones (b. 1986, Syracuse, NY) is a post-photographic artist, writer, and publisher based between Philadelphia and New York. Jones' work is grounded in methods of appropriation and the re-authorship of existing photographic, literary, and aesthetic traditions. His practice often engages with visual criticism, dark humor, cultural commentary, and building conversant bridges between past and present cultural, political, and technological conditions. He has exhibited his work internationally and throughout the United States, and his self-published books are held in numerous institutional photobook collections, including libraries at Museum of Modern Art, The Met, The Brooklyn Museum of Art, Victoria &amp; Albert Museum, and Yale University, among many others. Jones was named a Foam Talent in 2018, and a Paul Huf Award nominee in 2021. Jones’s work has been published in numerous international publications, including The Guardian, VICE, British Journal of Photography, Foam Magazine, Wallpaper, Blind, Humble Arts Foundation, Creators Project, Fisheye, Revista Balam, and IMA Magazine, among others. In addition to his photographic practice, Jones has contributed writing to Foam, Afterimage, Paper Journal, LensCulture, Unseen Magazine, among others. The work embodies reflections and anxieties over how AI threatens traditional photographic heritage, a topic I figure you might be interested in exploring. I feel this work needs an unorthodox approach, one that is somehow in keeping with the themes and modes of your exploration. Perhaps a text built from quotations, or words from an unexpected but suitable source that might work as both a response to your visuals and a parallel piece of thinking. A text that might help a viewer to think about questions to do with prompts and protocols, originality and interpretation, acceptability and appropriateness. Maybe even a text that challenges the status, norms and assumptions of the writing, just as AI imagery might challenge the status, norms and assumptions of the visual arts. If you feel this kind of approach might work, let’s do it. Agreed, the present certainly is weird. And it calls for weirdness.
